I just started using protein powder as part of a meal with the new diet from Theo. I was just wondering if there are any specific brands that anyone recommends. I used to buy Metabolic Drive and Surge on T-Nation, but now I want something cheaper. I have been buying a cheap brand (Body Fortress) for convenience sake that's $16 for 2 lbs. It tastes ok. I've been putting a packet of Splenda per scoop to make it taste a little better. Any thoughts?

Dymetize's 12 hour release is EXCELLENT...as well as OPTIMUM NUTRITION's casein powder...there's even Dorian's protein as well which is excellent...16$ for 2 lbs though...?Makes you wonder if it's all filler...DYMETIZE is excellent and price is always FAIR...
Best, Theo

My old favorites were: 1. Dymatize Cafe Mocha (add banana and peanut butter and blend it, killer shake) 2. Dorian Approved (ProPeptide Vanilla) 3. Brad King (Vanilla, little pricey)

ditto elli.although all their flavors are pretty good.chocolate and blueberry are very well made.but for me,it's whole food.my metabolism is just crazy right now,so chuging away at a shake is just not apppealing to me.

Ditto with me as well Biggie...I've had to resort to having a shake because of a business meeting or whatever and it basically feels as though it's running right through me...I need whole food...so if anything,I'll be late for my meetings...LOL.

i know where you are coming from coach.it's like you drink the d**n thing and you get nothing from it,no satisfation in the gut so to speak.even with food sometimes i feel hungry a little while after so just imagine liquid nutrition ?

Nevertheless,a good quality protein powder is very useful, especially for people who just can't eat whole foods for some reason or another and for trainees trying to gain LBM/weight as well as for young trainees with no muscle maturity level. It can be used efficiently for sure...From all the supplements, protein powder would be first in my book...

I know what you guys are sayin' about protein shakes and satiety. I feel the same way, but Theo included it as an option, and it can be very convenient for me. I always like having options. Besides I usually drink it as my last meal with fruit, which just so happens to usually be my post-workout meal.
By the way, I gave away that other cheap stuff and bought Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey, which is ok. So what's so special about protein powder with casein?

davisk,
for myself,it's about satiety...in addition,it's versatily is quite impressive for a "protein powder"...you can make pudding with it,mix it with ice cubes and make smoothies as well...my wife and I used to mix it in a blender with very little water, crushed ice and frozen fruit and I swear it tasted similar to ice cream or at least frozen yogourt...when 'dieting' for long periods of time, this little dessert can make a difference with 'sticking to the plan'...but from my own experience as well as clients, most other proteins that DON'T include casein, simply just run right through me...at least with casein, you can "feel" it...

I used to use Biotest's Metabolic Drive. I think that had casein in it, but I don't remember the satiety. Overall, that stuff is pricey though. I'm gonna try that Dymatize casein powder when I run out of this other stuff.

Yes,Metabolic Drive is hard on the wallet for sure...Dymatize is an excellent alternative for like half the cost.

Hey guys, just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in on this one. I've tried a bunch of stuff. My favorites include the Dymatize Elite, most of the flavors are ok. However, recently I began ordering some stuff that you can custom mix from trueprotein.com. If you're looking for a really good blend that helps with satiety, I suggest the "Team Skip" blend. It's 33% Egg White Protein, 33% Micellar Caesin, and 34% Whey Protein Isolate Microfiltration. Other than that, from my perspective, whey is whey. So don't get too hung up on the details.

Ed, Thanks for passing by man...how's training these days post MET... As for your post...yes,I agree, true protein you've described sounds great;I like the mixes as you get best of all world's for sure...it's not like you're going to get full or anything on protein, but yes, mixes seem to work best in that department. Welcome Aboard. Theo

Happy to be on the board Theo!
Things are going well post MET. A.C. has me on a hybrid program that's kicking my butt, and work has been going absolutely bananas lately. So, I haven't had much of a chance to be on the boards period.
I agree with your statement that Protein Powders aren't going to fill you up anytime soon! Heck, I use mine for breakfast with some oats and I can't wait to eat when the next meal comes rolling around. I must be getting somewhere in supercomp mode because the hunger is getting to a painful level. It's well worth the sacrifice though. Results are imminent if you follow the Coach's advice.
I may have something big coming down the pipe.
I'll be back regularly for sure on these boards.
