I have been getting many questions concerning this type of training as if it's something 'NEW' and is the best thing invented since 'viagra'...now,it just seems to me that every tom, thingy and harry is jumping on the METABOLIC bandwagon and although some of it 'seems' justfiable and worthy of its content, alot of it is just a 'collection of exercises' with a 'cross your fingers and hope it works' mentality and is lacking 'context'.
Just because you are performing mountain climbers, jumping jacks, etc does not mean you are benefitting yourself by performing such exercises and certainly does NOT mean you will be sporting 'rippling abs' in the next 4 weeks. Most seem to miss what Scott Abel has been pounding for years about exercise selection and proper PROGRAM DESIGN.If a 'secret' truly exists, then THIS IS IT...PROGRAM DESIGN catered to the individual.
I have been using Scott's principles for awhile and have studied his writings and works for quite sometime now.I have adapted many if not all of his principles with my clientele and the feedback as well as the results have improved in which words or numbers just can't express.I had a girl the other day come up to me and state :'Theo,I don't know how you get your clients in such top shape...most are lean or ripped and constantly improve it seems'...I've been copying some of your exercises in which you use with your clients and I still feel as though I'm getting nowhere...
My reply to her was that the 'secret' or whatever she thought I was giving out to my clients was proper program design suited for each individual.Whether they are performing METABOLIC conditioning workouts, power workouts, hybrids or straight hypertrophy performance,it was all suited for that particular individual...with his/her metabolic starting point, muscle maturity,conditioning,recuperation,etc...IT'S NOT ABOUT THE EXERCISES...It's about following a program in its 'WHOLE' and reaping its benefits which will get you closer to your goal(s).Even though I took the time to answer her,she still looked puzzled...she advised me that she had no money to spend on trainers or whatever...I advised her to go to my site or Scott's and perhaps purchase the UFP,WBH or just as a valid starting point, join the forums and clear things up...will she ? Or will she just go back to doing the same old copy cat workout and 'cross her fingers' that it works...? People love comfort blankets so we'll just have to hope for the best for these type of peeps who seem to be in the gym constantly but are getting nowhere...sorry for my rant...

PS:This is an old post but thought I would revive since I have been encountering many trainees asking the same questions...
