Theo,
Just wanted to know if consuming alcohol is ok when trying to get lean...can it be incorporated into a diet somehow ? Not for me,but a friend was asking me.I don;t know the answer as I would rather eat my calories than drink them lol.

Elli,
First off good call on your part;I feel the same way!Besides the fact that alcohol consumption supresses the body's ability to burn body fat (which should be enough) , the body has no storage capacity for alcohol. Therefore, when the liver is busy metabolizing alcohol the utilization of carbs, fats and protein has to be temporarily supressed until the body is detoxified.Personally,I would much rather eat my cals than waste them away on alcohol...it's just smart when trying to get lean,so the choice is yours or your friend's in this case.
Best, Theo

same here.i'd rather chow down my food than drink it for sure.occasional drink at a party or social gathering is ok,but i would much rather get my cals from food, especially on spike days.

I think the real question is "how serious is your friend about getting results?" I've always found that tons of people WANT results SOOO bad but aren't willing to work towards them (i.e. stop alcohol comsumption while dieting!). I totally understand that we need to still enjoy life but its about finding that happy middle ground between what we enjoy and what we want out of life.
My answer would be "drink up but just don't come back complaining about not loosing any weight!" Save the alcohol for when the diet is over .... like a reward!!

Good call Gybs...so many are willing to do 'anything it takes' to get ripped/shredded or just lose weight, but God forbid you take away the alcohol consumption...yes,all too common.
