Regarding condiments, are store bought marinades acceptable? I noticed that they can be low caloric, but the ingredients contain what seems like numerous additives.

Davis,
Yes,there exist numerous 'marinades' on the market that are acceptable as far as I'm concerned;I used to use fat-free italian dressing to marinate my chicken just before grilling on the BBQ...awesome stuff. There's a whole bunch that are acceptable that can make your diet much more 'interesting'...

I don't know why I never thought of using them. I guess I thought they would be very high-caloric, but I have noticed some that are like 10 calories per serving usually containing a little sugar. I've only been using spices or 'rubs'. I think I'll try something for next week. Any suggestions for chicken or fish? I was thinking about using something with garlic.

Davis,
Let me know which ones you choose;as long as they are not calorically dense, they're usually acceptable. It also depends on needs state and how you REACT to them...
