TQ2,
Well, this is all based on biofeedback and where you are within your training cycle;at the moment,I am performing anywhere from 12-20 sets (depending on the day) and I have designed my split to look like this :
Day 1 - Biceps / Triceps / Calves Day 2 - Legs / Abs-Core Day 3 - Chest / Triceps Day 4 - OFF Day 5 - Back/ Abs-Core Day 6 - Shoulders / Biceps Day 7 - OFF
Working like a charm at the moment as far as hypertrophy, which has been my main goal for approx 1 year now...my previous protocol was more set towards 30 sets / bodypart and reflects what I am doing right now.

Your best bet is to purchase the ABEL APPROACH from Scott Abel to truly understand biofeedback, since he is the one who coined the term. But in short, biofeedback is based on YOUR response to said protocol (ie:training, diet, recovery, life stressors,etc)...this can include such cues as energy levels in the gym,performance,execution,pump,hunger,appetite,elimination,etc...too may to name here, but basically it's the cues you SHOULD be paying attention to...instead of how much weight you used, the prescribed rest intervals, tempos, etc.

I threw out the log book when after reading The Abel Approach. Haven't looked back!
